Born to relative wealth, but it wasn't as much as his family would have liked. The McKenna's are a family of simplistic farmers, their lives anything but easy. Lucius is the oldest of four, but the only one that remained a farmer, as his siblings' talents lie in other pastures. Lucius was never really upset about it, being more of a supportive figure than anything, as he just wanted his siblings to be happy; and if their happiness wasn't in the fields, then, good for them.
He ended up expected, from a young age, to join the Republic when he was old enough. While he did, he didn't necessarily like it. Ultimately, it came down to, the Republic pays obscenely well, and is one of the few employers that do. He doesn't much care for the Republic's way of going about things, and when he can, he'll go about things his way, instead, but he isn't typically outright defiant. He does at least try to do most things the way he's expected to, and if it doesn't work, then it doesn't work, and he won't try and force it.
Originally, he was in the Enforcement Department, but later transferred to the Defence Department, and eventually also joined with the Special Other Forces as a handler. He's only had about three or four assignments by now (all died, most in action, but one from complications he suspects were caused by Euphoria).
For the most part, he minds his own business, and tends not to make waves, so he's not much well-known amongst his fellow handlers. He and a neighbour down the road tend to cater for varying festivals each year, and tag-team a soup kitchen in Pyxis, angled to help feed the less fortunate populace. Pyxis has the highest concentration of impoverished, thanks to the fighting rings, so it's primarily run in Pyxis rather than in Aquila where they are.
It's something of a dangerous undertaking; the Registration system is in place for a reason, after all. But Lucius doesn't really care about that, and isn't afraid of the consequences, and it seems, neither is his neighbour.
